Now with more laser!

We've added laser cutting to our production. What new advantages does this technology mean for you?

There’s just something so cool about telling someone you work with lasers isn’t there? Or is that just me?

There’s no doubt that this technology has been steadily gaining momentum within the digital sticker printing industry over recent years. For a while, we hesitated on adding a laser cutter to our arsenal, finding that while the potential of the technology was huge, it was perhaps not yet quite refined enough to work within a fast moving, short run, custom print outfit like ours. This year though, excited by the stability and capability now possible, we decided it was definitely time to welcome this advanced machine onto the floor.

We’ve honed our skills with it over the last few months, trialled it, challenged it, and we’re now stoked to say that it is ready for the field!

So now let’s quickly run through the new capabilities this new laser label finisher can offer when you choose Brand Industry for your next print of stickers of labels.

Complex die shapes

While we have always offered the ability to cut custom sizes and shapes when it comes to short run labels, there have always been some limitations. I remember when I was very green in this industry, a client asked me to cut their stickers to look like postage stamp. Of course confidently (cockily) said no problem. In theory it was a simple matter, but watching that knife go around every tiny little bump was excruciating, especially back then. It was an incredibly time consuming learning curve. Herein lays the beauty of a laser, with its lightning fast cutting speed and accuracy. The ability to be creative, experimental and spontaneous with the size and shape of your finished label can go a long way to having something that stands out amongst other labels.

Better perforations

While digital knife cutters do an OK job with perforations, in most cases we have advised against doing them on that type of machinery. Instead, directing customers on to other companies offering a more traditional (and unfortunately more expensive) option. However now, with the arrival of the laser finisher, we’re delighted to say that these are now undoubtedly within our wheelhouse! The speed, accuracy and consistency of the laser process is giving us brilliant results when it comes to both quality, customisation and speed. No longer a hurdle, but now just, all part of the service.

Rickles Picklery asked us to create a torn edge look to their labels. It was brilliant to see it turn out so well on the laser, when previously this would have been an impossible outcome via knife.

Thicker, harder material options

One of the most significant upgrades that has happened with the arrival of the laser finisher is the thickness of the materials we are able to cut. As an example, we’ve been busy of late producing custom cut tap decals which have proven hugely popular. Using a wet strength high density board for these items, they are incredibly durable and stiff, perfect for the wet and wild atmosphere that may come their way!

Back splits and through cuts

In particular when it comes to promotional stickers, you really want your stickers to be super easy for someone to remove and apply your sticker to a surface, being able to offer these two types of finishing options has been something we have sorely wanted to add for some time now. While not available for all materials, these options are definitely available for our synthetic and paper options, both particularly popular for the promotional type products. Placing a slit on the liner of your label makes it easier to remove the label, while finishing the label with a through cut, leaves the label looking clean and polished with no added borders to distract from your artwork. Opting for a through cut finish also means less material waste, which is a hidden environmental bonus for sure.

Over length / continuous

Vinyl and display materials have always been the answer when it comes to large format and over length printing. Now you have the option to avoid those heavy and expensive materials which are designed for long life outdoor use, instead opt for something economical and lighter within our range of synthetics or papers.
